‘The research project is being implemented by the Aalto University School of Business, the Hanken School of Economics and the University of Vaasa in cooperation with businesses in the Nordic Countries and collaborative partners on the international level’, explains Professor Kristiina Mäkelä from the School of Business.
‘We have already implemented several research projects on HR management with the same working group. Our cooperation is very strong and it functions well. Finland's leading HR researchers are now working on this important research topic.’
The aim of the research is to better understand the influence that the HR function has. The results are applicable to other functions as well.
‘Naturally the results will work as benchmarking material for companies and organisations’, Mäkelä adds.
‘Recruitment is currently underway in the companies and organisations used as research subjects in the study.’
The possibilities of HR professionals to influence decision making in the target companies are to be analysed from the point of view of individual skills, networks and the use of organisational resources by using qualitative and quantitative methods.
The research project ‘Influence without authority: Examining the agency and actions of Human Resource professionals’ is funded by the Academy of Finland with a four-year project grant (EUR 950 000). The project is managed by the Aalto University School of Business.
